The Baldur's Gate 3 Creators Unveil a Latest Divinity, Declaring it Their Biggest RPG to Date
The buzz around this year's gaming ceremony reached a fever pitch, particularly after host Geoff Keighley shared a puzzling image of a strange statue. The question is finally answered. The acclaimed developer is working on a brand-new Divinity game.
Revealed to be Divinity, the game was showcased with a bold trailer packed with memorable imagery, from a burning man to scenes of revelry and the literal descent into chaos.
Moving Beyond Original Sin
Anyone hoping for Divinity Original Sin 3, this is not that. Larian warned that a third Original Sin game to its critically acclaimed RPGs is not being worked on now.
However, the developer described this new Divinity as a next chapter of the main series. This choice of words hints that the team might be designing a real-time experience instead of another tactical title. Currently, it remains theory, as only a announcement clip is available.
A Pillar of Modern RPGs
The Divinity series is universally respected and arguably it pioneered the modern wave of deep computer role-playing games. These games are celebrated for rich lore, player agency, and complex character building—traits that subsequently were perfected in games like Baldur's Gate 3.
While its universe is classic fantasy, what makes Divinity apart is the unprecedented level of trust given to the player.
In contrast to modern RPGs have streamlined options, Divinity is brimming with niche playthroughs you can achieve with a distinct build with a personal story.
The series is also notoriously open-ended, enabling players to improvise in narrative and gameplay. Most missions can be completed in multiple ways, frequently in lateral fashion.
- You might progress the story because you recalled something an animal companion shared.
- Or, you could bypass a challenge by teleporting a glob of lava in a unorthodox way.
The Journey Continues
It is these creative systems that have cemented the series to label games like Divinity Original Sin 2 as among the greatest role-playing games in history. Now, players can look forward to more where that came from in this esteemed franchise.
